Little bit wo, little bit wei



It was said during the Japanese manufacturing revolution of the 1960s that their word for 'copy' was the same as 'learn'. This dinner-party drop-in was said to explain the resemblance of early products to Western goods and the subsequent superior ones. It seems China falls into the same mould, although they are, interestingly, copying themselves. See for example Huawo, a phone manufacturer with a name which eerily resembles Huawei - as do its products. At a recent trade fair, Huawo was showing pictures of a phone which was a carbon copy of Huawei's Mate 10. Unfortunately, there was no physical product to be seen as it was 'in development'.
